' ... combined her formidable skills and experience with a willingness to listen to our needs and concerns and respond accordingly ...'

We hired Tamara to design and write the front-end code for a new, responsive website for Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and we’ve been thrilled with the experience of working with her. She has been a fantastic collaborator, and I recommend her highly. Tamara combined her formidable skills and experience with a willingness to listen to our needs and concerns and respond accordingly. She was engaged with the project, very organized, and always prompt. She’s also an excellent communicator—able to understand our feedback clearly, and great at explaining the technologies she used, her choices, etc. She is a fantastic designer, and it was an absolute pleasure working with her. Ruiyan Xu, Website Manager

"Once we found Tamara Olson, it was as if a weight had been lifted ... top-notch, full of creativity, flexibility, and a keen eye for beauty ..."

Tamara Olson’s work is simply stellar!  She designed our new interactive book site from soup to nuts, flawlessly handled every change and curveball we sent her way and managed extraordinarily busy people with grace and kindness. She is talented in design and web architecture, technically very capable, an efficient and budget conscious project manager and accountable for meeting deadlines on budget to a fault. In short, she’s a total gem.

Her skills at building state-of-the-art websites are top-notch, full of creativity, flexibility, and a keen eye for beauty. 'We didn't quite know how much we needed a UX designer ... above and beyond what we could have asked for ...'

I could not recommend Tamara Olson Designs more highly. When Tamara came in, our organization needed a web designer and was also feeling frustrated because users were having a lot of difficulty navigating our website and web apps. We didn’t quite know how much we needed a UX designer. Tamara is above and beyond what we could have asked for. She is efficient with her time, on top of her game and professional, and a complete pleasure to work with. Her designs meet our needs, and she has also been great about connecting us to other people we need. Veritas Learning Labs

'... incredibly good at sussing out your needs and creating a stellar plan ... process is clear, so going through each step is easy ...'

Tamara was the first step in our long website overhaul journey. In many ways, these first steps – figuring out what you and your staff need, interviewing your users to figure out what they need, and putting all that information into a plan that will work for everyone – are the the most grueling part of a website redesign. However, Tamara made it completely painless. She’s not only incredibly good at sussing out your needs and creating a stellar plan, but her process is clear, so going through each step is easy. She’s super flexible, and no matter what we asked of her, she was prepared to help us get where we wanted to be. The tools she used made it easy for us to provide feedback, and her willingness to meet several times with our whole team meant that we were always on the same page. We have a huge website with lots of facets (non-profit donation side, retail side, trip planning elements, and several extremely different audiences with different needs), and Tamara made it all come together seamlessly, which made the rest of the redesign process easier. I cannot recommend Tamara more highly. Ecology Project International (site not yet launched)

'... able to see a vision from beginning to end ... a highly personal touch ... explain the confusing technical jargon ...'

When I decided to launch a website for my music, I had a general idea regarding an aesthetic but wasn’t quite sure how to put it all together. Tamara has an incredible eye for design and worked very closely with me to make sure that I was satisfied with the layout. The final product speaks for itself: Tamara transformed an otherwise run-of-the mill musician website into a beautifully designed, high-quality, professional page – some industry executives even commented that my webpage was better than most famous musicians’ sites! Tamara is an ‘all star’ in every sense of the expression; she was not only able to see a vision through from beginning to end but also had a highly personal touch, emailing and meeting with me frequently to discuss the progress of the website. Though she’s a self-professed computer geek, she was able to explain the confusing technical jargon in a way that made sense and therefore involved me in every step of the process. For anyone looking for a standout, professional site, I would highly recommend Tamara Olson’s services.Abby Bernstein, Singer-Songwriter

'... I can't even keep track of all the compliments I have been receiving ... I could not recommend someone more ...'

Tamara came highly recommended to me but she completely exceeded all expectations. After speaking to her on the phone, she decided to best way to personalize the website would be to take a trip out to Long Island and see the school for herself. Not only did she offer great ideas but I wanted to hire her to teach at my school! She had such a bubbly personality and was so excited for this project that it created a huge buzz in my school. Besides having people sign up for classes, I am able to put industry professionals directly in contact with potential talent. My students are now stepping it up in class hoping that I put their picture up on my website. I can’t even keep track of all the compliments I have been receiving. I had no idea where to start or even how to explain what I wanted. I needed someone to make it simple for me and just provide me with ideas that I could choose from. I was completely blown away. I can not imagine my website looking any better and I could not recommend someone more.Wendy Taubman, Founder, Stars of Tomorrow

'... for Tamara, user experience is a conversation, not a lecture ...'

Tamara is a UX architect and designer with a deep understanding of the Internet and a mastery of its visual language. Tamara and I worked closely on a months-long project for which she was the UX architect and I was the lead developer. Working with her was a pleasure. She took the time to understand our users’ needs as well as the limitations of the system we were working with and the realities of the software development life cycle. In the final weeks of the project, she took up the mantle of the QA analyst and thoroughly documented every problem she found. She even filtered all the defects reported by end users, raising only the legitimate bugs to the development team. This was immensely helpful, and undoubtedly pushed the project over the finish line. Many UX architects blithely create a static, monolithic design that may address what a user needs but doesn’t necessarily relate to the bigger picture of the system to which it belongs. Worse yet for developers, some UX architects wield their design as a sword, threatening to decapitate any change that comes their way. Not Tamara. She constantly triangulates her approach and strives to understand every force at play in the system. For Tamara, user experience is a conversation, not a lecture. She really wants her work to be accessible to her users and to her colleagues, while maintaining a clear focus and strong vision-a rarity in a world of obdurate UX architects and their joyless, worn-out designs. Any team would find Tamara’s broad knowledge and helpful, friendly demeanor refreshing, and any business would benefit from her creativity, insight, and tenacity. I recommend Tamara without reservation.Austin Smith, Founder of Alley Interactive

'... has a deep understanding of the myriad factors that create a positive or negative website experience ...'

Tamara brings a sharp, informed intelligence to her UI work. She has a deep understanding of the myriad factors that create a positive or negative website experience — and how those factors inform a user’s time online. At the New York Observer, Tamara originated the concept for the redesign of Observer.com. Working with both editorial and production teams, she ensured the new site would provide both a fresh, original news-reading experience and a highly intuitive one. As a result, time on site quadrupled, page views doubled, and Observer.com was nominated for a Webby Award (Best Newspaper Website) – an accolade for which she can take much of the credit. I very much enjoyed working with Tamara, and I hope to work with her again.John Vorwald, Managing Editor of The Observer

'... took the time to understand and came up with great ideas ...'

Tamara was able to understand the concept, look at all my elements and create a great website for Surrender Tango. We worked together on building a structure for the site that we could adapt for my next film even though it looks completely different. She took the time to look at the film and came up with great ideas. And I learned from her so that each time we worked together, the site got better and better. I called her in to do the alumni site for News and documentary at NYU Arthur Carter Journalism Institute. I needed something that looked good, but that my students could update. She cleverly incorporated blog templates into the design and it is working really well.Marcia Rock, NYU Journalism

'... has done a wonderfully creative job ... nothing but compliments from clients and other lawyers alike ...'

I practice law, primarily federal criminal defense, in Montana, a large state geographically but a small state population-wise. The most effective way to put my name out to prospective clients, both in state and out-of-state, is through my website. Tamara Olson has done a wonderfully creative job in designing, presenting, and maintaining my website. I have received nothing but compliments from clients and other lawyers alike. After reviewing my website, an out of state lawyer recommended that his client retain me: “I told him about your experience and awards (described in your curriculum vitae) and confirmed his prior authorization to hire a superbly qualified Great Falls attorney on his behalf.” This would not have happened without Tamara Olson. On a more personal note, as friend and colleague of Tamara’s father and as husband of one of Tamara’s high school teachers, I can attest to her good character and reputation. Thank you, Tamara!Dan Donovan, Attorney at Law

'... really great at being patient and guiding me through the site building process ... exciting and motivating working with her ...'

Tamara built the website for my new legal tech start up. She did both the design and programming, and made it polished and professional yet fun and modern. Tamara was also really great at being patient and guiding me through the site building process (as I was new to the tech world). It has been incredibly exciting and motivating working with her! AlumLaw

'... technical and design skills to beat the band ... the willingness to do as little or as much as you ask ...'

Tamara brings a lot to the party:
– Technical and design skills to beat the band
– A desire to please coupled with the willingness to do as little or as much as you ask
– The sensitivity to feel what you are about and then surprise you – to the point of insight – with what she brings back … a flattering mirror that is magnetic to others the generosity to support you being you …
Everyone who comes to my site says, ‘Wow, your site is so you. I didn’t know you knew how to do that kind of thing … I have seen some of the images before but wow!’ And I answer, ‘Tamara Olson did it. She did exactly what I asked her to do, only better … like exactly how I designed it … in my dreams.’Patricia Lee Stotter, Liquid Architecture

'A class act all the way!'

[I appreciated] the efficiency and feeling like Tamara was “on it.” She went the extra mile and it showed. Tamara was great: Communicative, efficient. A class act all the way! Dr. Ben Michaelis
